Plein Air
French term meaning "in the open" - This term is used to describe paintings or drawings that have been done outdoors, directly from the subject, rather than in a studio. I joined the Gallery Painting Group in 2005. This group of artists gets together and paints and draws at various locations in and around London from May until October. When you work outside you learn to work quickly as lighting/weather changes which in turn changes everything you see. It is pleasant challenge to work outsite and appreciate the natural beauty of the landscape and surroundings.
I am always looking for interesting locations, especially country properties. If you have an interesting country property that I could visit in southwestern Ontario, please contact me.
Most of my plein air images at this time, are drawings. There is a stark beauty to this linear method of making images. Ink drawing is essentially an exercise exploring the use of line. I use
Micron technical pens and more recently pen and india ink. Micron Pens are noted for quality and consistency of line and are very convenient for location work. Traditional pen ink are not as convenient but I find this medium allows me to have more freedom in my work and I get the blackest of blacks.
Because this section is all work completed on location, there will be very little, if anything added between November and April.
