Save me series
Historic Architecture - So you ask, why save an old building? When I look at historic architecture, I see the authentic craftsmanship, the beautiful façades, the character, culture and charm from days gone by. I imagine the stories of the people who lived and worked there. I feel the creative energy within the walls. I believe each and every old building has a soul and she deserves to be saved. Once an old building is destroyed, she is lost forever.
This Series began in 2017 after I heard about a fire in Clinton Ontario, the area of southwestern Ontario that I grew up in. Albert Street had superb late 19th-century architecture, constructed using beautiful yellow bricks and all the decorative features that go along with it. Damaged beyond repair, this section was eventually torn down. Luckily, I had taken photos of various buildings and streetscapes in small towns. I honoured "Beaver Block" by doing the first illustration of my "Save Me Series". I had always felt the energy that lives in historic buildings, so I add the female form, from an earlier life drawing session.
